The final events of the 2022 Tely Junior Tour were held at Terra Nova Resort & Golf Community this past weekend. Activities included the Skills Challenge, Terra Nova Junior Invitational, and the presentation of the annual awards.
The Junior Skills Challenge focuses on developing the key golf skills of putting, chipping, and driving. The objective of the program is for players to develop key golf skills while getting a valuable introduction to competition. The Skills Challenge took place on Sunday, August 28th with 25 competitors from across the province competing in five age divisions.
In the Boys’ 15 to 18 Division, Caleb Reid of Grand Falls Golf Club recorded a 235 to take the Division, with Declan Flynn of Glendenning Golf capturing the Boys’ 12 to 14 division title with a total of 240. Dante Pennell of Blomidon Golf Club recorded 170 points to win the Boys’ 9 to 11 Division.
Paige Allen of Blomidon Golf Club recorded 265 points to secure the 15 to 18 Girls’ Division title. Sarah Peyton of Humber River Golf Club won the Girls’ 12 to 14 Division, recording a score of 165.
With clear skies, superb course conditions, and a mild breeze, the final event of the 2022 Tely Junior Tour was held at Terra Nova on the Twin Rivers Championship course on Monday, August 29th.
Caleb Reid of Grand Falls Golf Club claimed his second Junior Boys’ Division title of the season, recording an 85 and a one-stroke win over Phillip Snow of Amaruk Golf & Sports Club. Evan Snow of Gander Golf Club carded a 92 to secure third place.
Sanjana Gullipalli of Bally Haly Country Club won her 4th event of the season, carding an 81 and securing the Junior Division title. Sisters Paige and Rosie Allen of Blomidon Golf Club tied for second with a score of 94.5, however Rosie took second place utilizing the process of retrogression.
In the Juvenile Boys’ Division, Daniel Sharpe of Blomidon Golf Club and Sam Fisher of Bally Haly Country Club tied for first place with a score of 87. Fisher took the divisional title through a sudden victory playoff. Griffen Gallant of Bally Haly secured third place in the division with a score of 89.
In the Bantam Boys’ Division, Jonah Sharpe of Blomidon Golf Club recorded a 47 to win the division title with a 1-stroke win over Jaden Reid of Grand Falls Golf Club. Roirdan Flynn took third place with a score of 49. In the Bantam Girls’ Division, Sarah Peyton of Humber River Golf Club carded a 68, winning the division.
With the conclusion of the 2022 season, annual awards were presented in a variety of categories. West Coast Swing, donated by Charles Earle, was presented to Karsen Best of Bally Haly Country Club. The Hutchinson Trophy, presented to a junior female that showed marked improvement, was presented to Sarah Peyton of Humber River Golf Club.
The Charlie & Una Cooke Award for Most Improved Female was awarded to Rosie Allen, with The Telegram Award for Most Improved Male going to Lucan Meade.
The Thompson Bowl for top Bantam Girl went to Sarah Peyton. The Watson Bowl for the top Bantam Boy was presented to Jonah Sharpe. The Arye Bowl for the top Juvenile Boy went to Sam Fisher. The Junior Girls’ Champion was presented to Sanjana Gullipalli, and The Junior Boys’ Champion was presented to Caleb Reid.
At the closing awards luncheon, Golf NL thanked the host course, staff and management, the volunteers, title sponsor The Telegram, and contributing partners RMS, Browning Harvey, and Taylormade for their support of junior golf and the Tely Junior Tour.
