Port Blandford, NL—While the day started out with clear skies and a calm wind, conditions changed considerably mid afternoon with the onset of heavy rain and thunder that hauled play for approximately 45 minutes. When play resumed the weather conditions turned cold with intermittent showers to complete the first round of the 2021 Royal LePage Provincial Amateur Championships on Twin Rivers Course at Terra Nova Resort
The exceptional early morning scoring conditions provided some close competition as Jason Stagg of Humber Valley Resort and Robbie Squires of Bally Haly Country Club carding a 2 over par 73 to record the low round of the day and a tie for first in both the Men’s Amateur and Mid-Amateur Divisions.
In the Amateur Division, five players including Matt Bonnell, Ryan Aucoin, Ryan Howlell, Jonathan Organ and Jaron Flynn are tied for third, just 1 stroke off the pace. A similar situation exists in the Mid-Amateur with Organ and Flynn just 1 stroke behind the leaders.
