St. John’s, NL…The Tely Junior Tour’s 2021 season, its 15th, wrapped up Sunday with the Tour Championship on the Twin Rivers course at Terra Nova. Thirty-six players participated in the final event of the season
At stake was the Order of Merit Trophy in each of the Tour’s five divisions. The Order of Merit recognizes strong sustained play over the season. In Junior Boys Division, Ryan Holwell and Karsen Best, both members at Bally Haly, were tied heading into the final event. Holwell fired a four-over-par 75 to capture the Order of Merit and the Golf NL Trophy. In Junior Girls Division, Paige Allen of Blomidon Golf Club won by 12 strokes over Brooklyn Stride to take the Golf NL Junior Girls Trophy.
In the Juvenile Boys Division, Evan Snow of Gander Golf Golf held a slim lead with Sam Fisher of Clovelly and Noah Belliveau of Harmon Seaside Links tied entering the final event. While Snow faulted, Fisher and Belliveau carded a 91 and forced a sudden-death playoff to decide the winner of the Ayre Bowl and the Juvenile Division. On the 18th hole playoff, Fisher recorded a 4 to win by 1 stroke and claim the title.
In the Bantam Boys division, Griffin Gallant of Bally Haly and Keegan Pender of Glendenning Golf were tied in the OOM standings. Gallant carded a 38 to win the final event of the season and capture the Watson Bowl as the top bantam for 2021. In the Bantam Girls Division, sisters Mila and Freya Snook of Bally Haly were tied for first with Sanjana Gullipalli of Clovelly in third heading into the final event. Gullipalli recorded a 38 to win the Tour Championship and secure the Thompson Bowl.
In other awards announced on Sunday included, the Charles Earle Trophy went to Evan Snow for the best performance on the “West Coast Swing.” The swing consists of Tely Tour events at Harmon, Blomidon, and Humber River. The Hutchinson Cup went to Kali Gill of Blomidon Golf Club. The Hutchinson is awarded to a female golfer who is at an early stage in her competitive career on the Tely Tour. The Most Improved Female was Rosie Allen of Blomidon while the trophy for Most Improved Male went to Caleb Reid of Grand Falls Golf Club.
The Tely Tour Executive extended a big thank-you to all the players, referees, and volunteers for supporting the Tour. Thanks also to the twelve golf clubs that hosted events in 2021. Finally, a huge thank you to the title sponsor, The Telegram, for their continued support.
