Mills, Davis, & Brown Win Double Crowns at Royal LePage Amateur Championships

Labrador City, NL….With the continues threat of thunder and lights and intermittent heavy rain, the final round of the 2023 Royal LePage Provincial Amateur Championships came to an exciting finale at Taramack Golf Club in Labrador City.. Janet Mills of Bally Haly Country Club carded an 82 for a three-day total of 246 and capture the Ladies Senior Championship and her second title of the weekend. Inez Thorne of Tamarack Golf Club finished in second with a two-daytotal of 261 follow by Tina White of Amaruk Golf Club who moved into third place with a score of 281.

In the Women’s Amateur and Mid-Amateur Divisions Kanani Davis of Amaruk Golf Club lead the two divisions wire to wire to capture both championships with a three-day total of 280. Marie-Soliel Penashue also of Amaruk placed second with a score of 318 while Tamarack Golf club member Robyn Edwards claimed third place with a total of 330 in her first provincial competition.

In the Mens Amateur Division, Teran Newell from River Hills Golf Club in Halifax lead wire to wire capture the Amateur title with a three-daytotal of 217 and an impressive, 1 over par for the championship. Ryan MacNeile-Lamswood of Harmon Seaside Links placed second just 5 strokes off the leader while Tamarack’s Mitch Normore rounded out the top three. 

In the Mens Mid-Amateur Division, Normore captured his first provincial title with a three-day total of 223 and a two-stroke victory over follow club mate Michael Jones. Nikashantess Penashue of Amaruk Golf Club captured third place with an overall score of 230.

In the Senior Men’s Division, Super Senior Champion Mike Brown added to his award cabinet, winning the division carding a 2 over par 74 for a three-day total of 230 and a 5 stroke victory over Eric Penney from Tangle Creek. Dennis Langdon of Tamatack Golf Club moved up a position to capture third place with a score of 81 and a three-daytotal of 239.

During the awards ceremonies, Golf NL noted that a total of $600.00 was raised for the Junior Scholarship program, acknowledged the work of the volunteers to assist with pace of play, forecaddies, scoring and starting as well as the referees. It was announced that Royal LePage will continue their title sponsorship of the championships and that the 2024 Royal LePage Provincial Amateur Championships will be held at Humber Valley Resort at Humber Valley.
