Fisher & Gullipalli Crowned High School Champions

Gonzaga & Holy Heart Captures Team Titles

St.John’s, NL…The 2023 Provincial High School Golf Championships took place at Glendenning Golf on Friday, September 22nd with a total of fifty-seven players with 5 girls, 52 boys and 8 teacher sponsors participating. This one day, (18) hole, stroke play format included an individual and team competition that attracted students representing eleven (11) schools from the eastern region of the province.

Sam Fisher of Holy Heart battled the cold and the wind to capture the individual Boys Championship with a score of 81 while in the Girls Division, Sanjana Gullipalli of Holy Heart recorded an 82 to win the individual Girls Championship.

In the team competition, the Gonzaga team comprised of Ethan Power, Kade Kingsley and Eustaquio Gavira (an exchange student from Spain) scored a team total of 266 to capture the Ted Withers Boys Championship Trophy with a 10-stroke win over O’Donel while two other teams from Gonzaga tied for third with a team score of 282. Holy Heart girls team comprised of Sanjana Gullipalli and Julia McCarthy captured the Girls Wedgwood Insurance Trophy with a combined total score of 193.

Tournament Convener, Gregory Winters of Holy Heart High School thanked the management and staff of Glendenning for hosting the competition, referees Paul Comeau and Joan Vautiar for helping to keep things moving on the course and acknowledged the partnership with Golf Newfoundland Labrador to continue with the event. The 2024 High School Championship is tentatively set to be played on The Admirals Green course at Pippy Park in late September .
