DAY 2 – ROYAL LEPAGE JUNIOR PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS – GANDER GOLF CLUB

Day two of the 2023 Royal LePage Provincial Junior Championships proceeded under the forecast of the threat of heavy rain Tuesday, July 4th at Gander Golf Club. Due to steady light rainfall, it was decided to change to a two 9-hole format to ensure that nine holes could be played to constitute an official round. As luck would have it the day improved as players headed into the back nine and all competitors finished a full 18-hole round.

After two days of competition, the lead in the Junior Girls Division changed as Mila Snook of The Bally Haly Country Club recorded a two-day total of 158 to hold a 14-stroke lead over day one leader Sanjana Gullipalli and Freya Snook with identical scores of 172.

Sanjana Gullipalli of Bally Haly Country Club holds lead in the Juvenile Girls Division with a combined two-day total of 172 followed by Paige Allen of Blomidon Golf Course with a score of 173. In the Girls Bantam Division, Mila Snook is in the lead with a combined total of 158, followed by her twin sister Freya Snook at 172 also from Bally Haly Country Club, and in third place Rosie Allen from Blomidon Golf Course with 191.

Danial Sharpe of Blomidon Golf Club carded a 4 over par 74 to expand his lead in the Junior Boys Division by 14 strokes over second-place Karsen Best of Bally Haly with 163 and in third Lucan Meade from Bally Haly carded a two-day total of 164.

Daniel Sharpe holds the lead with the Juvenile Boys Division with an impressive 149. In second place is Lucan Meade from Bally Haly Country Club with 164 and in third place after two days of play is Sam Fisher also from Bally Haly Country Club with a score of 166.

In the Boys’ Bantam Division, Declan Flynn of Glendenning Golf Course is in the lead with a two-day combined total of 167. Keegan Pender from Pippy Park Golf Course holds down second place with a two-day score of 183 followed by Drew Park of Humber River Golf Club with a 186.

During the initial day of the championships, players participated in the National Junior Skills provincial event testing their skills and earning points for Driving. Chipping and Putting capabilities with the following overall winners:

Girls 12-14 yrs Mila Snook ( Bally Haly Country Club)

Girls 15-18 yrs Paige Allen ( Blomidon Golf Course)

Boys 9-11 yrs Dante Pennell (Blomidon Golf Course)

Boys 12-14 yrs Griffin Gallant ( Bally Haly Country Club)

Boys 15-18 yrs Karsen Best ( Bally Haly Country Club)

The final day of play will get underway tomorrow at 9 am NST at Gander Golf Club with a much more favorable forecast . Best of luck to all competitors as they head into the final day of play !!
