On behalf of the Board of Directors of Golf Nl, I would like to welcome you to the first edition of the 2017 eNewsletter.
This edition will provide you with information on a number of activities and initiatives of the organization for the coming year. To obtain additional information on the below topiocs please refer to our website at 2www.golfnl.ca or contact our office.
In the coming months Golf NL plans to circulate a monthly edition of the eNewsletter the second Tuesday of each month. The eNewsletter will provide information on our member courses, programs and services, golf promotional information, golf tip and other relevant information.
We look forward to the coming season and trust you find this edition of the Golf NL eNewsletter informative. If you have any comments or suggestions for future additions please feel free to contact the office.
GNL Locates to Sport NL Office
Golf NL is pleased to announce that effective Monday May 1st, 2017 the offices of the organization will be located in the Sport NL offices located in the Didham Building at 1296 Kenmount Road. This move will provide GNL with access to additional space for hosting meetings and storage, and working more closely with other PSOs and Sport NL.
Golf Newfoundland Labrador (GNL), Competitions Committee in partnership with title sponsor Royal LePage and contributing supporters Taylormade-adidis, Old Dutch, Molson, Wedgwood Insurance and Jackson-Triggs is pleased to announce on-line registration for the 2017 Royal LePage Provincial Championships begins Monday April 3, 2017 at 8:00 AM NST
The competitions are open to amateur players. Provincial players must be a member of a golf club in good standing with GNL or are Gold level members of Golf Canada/GNL membership program. Foreign players must be members in good standing with their respective association.
Hosted by the Grande Meadows Golf Club in Frenchman's Cove from July 2nd to 5th.
GNL has reserved accommodations at Marystown Hotel & Convention Center under “2017 Royal LePage Provincial Junior Championships” and encourage participants to confirm accommodations at this venue as soon as possible by calling the hotel (709) 279-1600
Hosted by Bally Haly Country Club in St. John's from July 9th to 12th.

This year, GNL anticipates a full field of 144 players. We encourage you to register as soon as possible and to inform any of your friends to register early.
Covered Bridge Golf & Country Club has agreed to host the 2017 Atlantic Golf Championships from Thursday August 17th to Saturday August 19th. Covered Bridge is located in Hartland, NB about an hour north of Fredericton.
The facility hosted the 2016 NB Men`s Amateur Championship, 2016 Estabrooks Cup (Ryder Cup event) and 2014 NB Mid-Amateur Championships in recent years. The golf course will be a great venue for the players and should work well.

In addition, the club has cabins on sight that would work for team accommodations. The cabins are rustic with no TV or Internet, but have 4 single beds and those who have used them in the past have had no complaints.
Not all players will be able to stay on sight, however, the club has set aside all of the cabins for the moment and will be looking to book additional rooms at the Best Western in Woodstock (about 15 minutes from the golf course), for the Tournament Staff and other teams.
Please be advised that in order to represent Team NL at the Atlantic and/or National Championships a player must compete in the Provincial Championships.
Registration for the 2017 Tely Tour is now open and as in previous years in order for players to compete on the Tour they must have a 2017 ID Number. To obtain your ID Number please go to www.telytour.ca and submit the registration page. The 2017 Tour Schedule and registration fees for each event are posted on the site.
Golf Newfoundland and Labrador (GNL), through the Junior Committee, is pleased to announce that the seventh annual Spring Junior Development camp will take place from May 20th to 22nd at Terra Nova Resort & Golf Community in Port Blandford.
This camp is open to any junior age golfers (12 years and older) from across the province who wish to enhance and develop their golf skills and knowledge of the game. The activities for the weekend will include skill testing, course management, sport science sessions including nutrition, mental preparation and rules, strength and flexibility sessions and a number of rounds of golf on Twin Rivers and Eagles Creek.
Instructors and chaperones for the camp include Team NL Canada Games coach Wayne Allen, Development Team coach Jamie Moran, Team NL Canada Games Manager Sandra Sparrow, 2016 Provincial Men's Amateur Champion, Willingdon Cup Champion, and Utah Valley University Golf Team member Blair Bursey and a number of other staff. As part of the camp, players in attendance will be provided with information on the 2017 Royal LePage Provincial Junior Championships, 2017 Canada Games, 2017 Tely Tour Schedule and other junior activities for the coming season.
The player registration form and itinerary for the camp is posted on the GNL website at www.golfnl.ca. Space will be limited due to the number of instructors, facilities and accommodations. A player interested in attending this camp is encouraged to complete and return the registration form as soon as possible.
The $225.00 registration fee for the camp will cover player costs including participation in the skills competition, golf rounds, seminars, skills instruction, accommodations, meals and nutrition breaks. Each player will be responsible for the cost of transportation to and from the host site.
Golf Newfoundland Labrador (GNL) in conjunction with Golf Canada will be hosting Level III and Level IV Rules of Golf Seminar that will be held at “Bally Haly Country Club” from April 21st to 23rd, 2017.

2:00 P.M. Close of Seminar
Level III Fee: $100.00 per person
Note that GNL will cover the registration fee for individuals wishing to challenge the Level III exam
Registration deadline: Friday April 14th, 2017 5:00 P.M.
Participants should have a 2016-2017 Rules of Golf Decisions Book
The seminar will be coordinated by Golf Canada Level IV Rules Facilitators Roland Deveau and Adam Helmer The seminar will include a detailed review of the Rules of Golf, and participants will be provided an opportunity to obtain certification at either the Provincial (Level III) or National Level (Level IV).
The registration fee will cover the cost of breakfast, lunch each day, coffee breaks, and clinic costs.
Golf Newfoundland Labrador (GNL), in partnership with participating member courses is pleased to announce the launch of the 2017 Golf Passport Program.
The program will begin on Monday May 29th and run until October 6th , 2017 and is limited to individuals who are members of a participating golf course or hold a current Golf Newfoundland Labrador/Golf Canada Unaffiliated Gold Membership Card.
In order to participate in the program, individuals can obtain a Passport Card (ballot) from their member course or, for Unaffiliated Players, the offices of GNL. Each Passport Card (ballot) contains a list of all participating member courses and is grouped into five regions. A Passport Card will be converted into a ballot when an individual either:
1. Plays one (1) round in each of the five (5) regions or,
2. Plays a total of seven (7) rounds in three (3) different regions
The Passport Card becomes a ballot when an individual has played and has their passport stamped at a number of courses/rounds in the desired regions. The ballot would be completed with name, e-mail address with Home Course and then submitted to their respective course of origin for entry into the grand prize draw.
The draw for the Grand Prize Package will take place on Tuesday October 31st, 2017 and includes: Airfare for two from St. John's to the host city of the 2018 RBC Canadian Open, tickets for two to attend the RBC Canadian Open, and three nights’ accommodations for two.
Golf NL invites you to help celebrate what was certainly our most successful year ever.
Golf NL will be hosting our third annual fundraising event. This year’s fun and games will take place at Clovelly on Saturday June 3rd with an afternoon of competition and a night of food and celebration.
The event will be co-hosted by Fred Hutton and Paddy Daly and include golf (optional), reception, buffet dinner, entertainment by Snook and the traditional silent, live and raffle activities. with a number of give-a-ways, a door prize and golf draws.
Come celebrate our success with winning Newfoundland’s first Willingdon Cup Team National Championship - Blair Bursey, Nathan Peters and Chuck Conley, Atlantic Champions:

Proceeds from The Drive will help Golf NL achieve our goal of hosting “Best in Class” Golf Competitions at our Junior and Amateur Provincial Championships plus support for our Provincial Teams at the Canadian National Championships, Future Links Junior Championships and the Atlantic Amateur Championships.
The Drive tickets cost $175 per person, including golf, or $125 for our Celebration Dinner and Auction.
