18 HOLES & 18 QUESTIONS with Freya Snook of Bally Haly Golf Course

We’re back for the second edition of 18 holes & 18 questions. Last week featured Kevin Murphy who is our oldest golfer profile at 90 years of age, followed this week by our youngest, Freya who is 12!

Freya is 12 years old and a grade 6 student at Brookside Intermediate. Her favorite subject in school is physical education.
When she is not playing golf, she plays soccer with the NLSA and Whitecaps FC programs and competes in the premier youth league with the U12 Feildians girls’ team.

She also plays school and club basketball. Freya is also heavily involved in track and field, having participated in NL Athletic competitions in 2022/2023. Outside of playing sports, she loves dabbling on her skateboard, playing video games, and eating exotic foods!

3. Where do you live today?
Portugal Cove

4. What would people be surprised to learn about you?
I love trying different foods. I especially like Thai food.

5. Are you a member of a golf club and what club?
Bally Haly Golf and Country Club

6. Who do you regularly play golf with?
My dad and twin sister Mila

7. What’s the favourite course you ever played?
Disney Oaks (there were Turkeys in the trees, a par 8, and a mickey mouse bunker)

8. What course would you like to play anywhere in the world?
Many! Augusta National, Pinehurst No 1, TPC Scottsdale, and Sawgrass

9. Where and when did you start golfing?
Age 3. The Original Bally Haly Country Club

10. Can you (briefly) tell us about your most memorable golf experience.
Playing in the IMG World Championship in San Diego in 2019.

11. Can you (briefly) tell us about your funniest golf experience.
During practice, my dad promised me I could get ice cream if I hit a 45-yard shot into a garbage bin and I did it on the first try.

12. What is your greatest golf accomplishment?
Winning the 2021 Junior Girls Provincials

13. How do you like to relax?
Playing video games

14. What is your favorite movie and/or book?
Happy Gilmore

15. What is your most treasured golf possession?
A Loonie. My first coach (Jeff MacNeill) bet me $1 when I was 5 years old that I could not hit the green from 100 yards. It was on by an inch.

16. What is your best/worst quality on the golf course?
Competitive / Hard on Myself

17. What three professional golfers would you like to join you at a dream dinner party?
Brooke Henderson, Max Homa, and Xander Schaufele (I call him Snuffles)
