Biography: George Janes lives in Clarke’s Beach NL with his wife of 34 years (Joy) and their 4 dogs. They have one son (Jordan)who lives nearby.


George was a member of the Canadian Forces for 30 years and retired in 2015. He served across Canada, Europe and completed five operational deployments, including the Persian Gulf War, the former Yugoslavia and Afghanistan. He served as a councillor for the Town of Clarke’s Beach for 8 years and is currently serving on the Executive of Branch 32, the Royal Canadian Legion, Bay Roberts.

George started playing golf in 1988 in Winnipeg and has been addicted ever since. He claims he is still no good but loves the game and will likely play to his last breath.

When he’s not golfing you will likely find him at his cabin with the campfire going or doing home renovations for someone who needs assistance.

 Cabot Cliffs in Inverness, NS and Pinehurst in North Carolina

  Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1988

  1.  Can you (briefly) tell us your most memorable golf experience.

Suring a 36 hour layover in Dubai on my return from Afghanistan, myself and 3 Army buddies played the Emirates Club, home of the Race to Dubai championship.

  1. What is your greatest golf accomplishment?

Won a tournament at Hartley Point Golf course, Eastern Passage, NS.

  1.  How do you like to relax?

Up at the cabin!

Ball and broken Tee from my first (and only) hole in one.

Persistence/Patience
