Furlong, Chaulk & Boland Set to Define Titles

St. John’s, NL….A total of 124 golfers from across province including 105 men and 19 women have converged on Bally Haly Country Club in St. John’s to compete in the 2018 Royal LePage Provincial Amateur Championships from July 8th to 11th for the right to represent the province at Atlantic and National Championships.

The 54 hole stroke play tournament will determine the provincial champion in eight categories including: Men’s and Women’s Amateur, Mid-Amateur, Senior and Super Senior. 2017 Mens Amateur and Mid-Amateur Champion Mike Furlong of Bally Haly Country Club is back to defend his titles, while fellow club member Don Boland will try to retain his Super Senior Championship. Defending Senior Champion George Chaulk of Harmon Seaside Links will be returning to reclaim his title. 2018 will see new champions(s) crwoned in the Ladies as Golf NL Hall of Famer and Humber Valley Resort member Judy Gillam will not be returning this year.

2018 will mark the return of 2016 Amateur Champion Blair Bursey of Gander. Besides Bursey a number of other players to keep an eye on include Nikashantess Penashue, Michael and Matthew Tibbo, Chuck Conley and Michael Ryderare just some of the talented favorites in the mens field. On the ladies side Janet Mills of Bally Haly have an eye on capturing another title while Kathleen Jean, Allison Crawford, Rosie Boland and Gale Roberts are capable of capturing a crown this year.
